Google Nexus 5 Found Running Android KitKat KTU65

10867694555_071d016ae3It’s no secret that Google is currently working on a major Android update to fix both some minor problems with the Nexus 5 involving battery performance and its camera. Earlier this month, we blogged about a Google project member acknowledging these problems and claiming there was a fix underway. Although there’s still no official word on when the next Android update will be released, a recent screenshot reveals a Nexus 5 device running a new Android build. Is this the update we’ve all been waiting for?

Chromium Post Reveals Android KitKat KTU65 Build

A member at Chromium recently published a question asking forum members for help in solving a problem related to Gmail. According to the user, all inbox messages in their Gmail account would open automatically upon scrolling, making it extremely difficult to check their email. The member posted a question on the Chromium forums asking for help from other community members.

This isn’t the first time someone has sought help from Chromium members, but what makes this instance stand out is the information included about the OP’s device. If you click on the link previously mentioned, you’ll notice the device mentioned in the Chromium post states:

Application Version (from “Chrome Settings > About Chrome”): 35.0.1897.2
Android Build Number (from “Android Settings > About Phone/Tablet”): Nexus 5
Device: KTU65

Is a New Android KitKat Build On The Horizon?

If the Chromium post is real, then yes, there’s a good chance of a new Android KitKat build on the horizon for the Nexus 5. KTU65 is a new build that we’ve yet to see with the Nexus 5 or any other Android device, leaving some people to question whether or not it’s the major update intended to fix some of the common battery and camera problems reported by Nexus 5 users.

Myce.com dives a litter deeper in the subject by breaking down the code: KTU65. According to the site, the code reflects an Android KitKat build that was released on March 6th, 2014, making it the latest Android update for the Nexus 5.

Is this the real deal or just someone trying to push our buttons? There’s no way to tell for sure, but all of the signs suggest that KTU65 is in fact the next major Android update for the Nexus 5.
