When Google initially released their official “bumper case” for the Nexus 5, we had high hopes (to say the least). A new case can make a world of different in terms of look, feel and even the function of a smartphone. Unfortunately, the official Nexus 5 bumper case was a let down, as it suffered from several major flaws that made. The good news is that Google has quietly fixed these issues, and now the bumper case is back on the list of “must have” accessories for your Nexus 5!
Although they looked pretty, the old Nexus 5 bumper cases had buttons that were too bulky and placed in the wrong location. Nine out of ten times, pressing down on the case’s volume button didn’t chance the volume on the device. This was due to the bumper case’s buttons not lining up properly with the Nexus 5’s buttons.
Coming from someone who owned one of the old Nexus 5 bumper cases, I’ll say that it wasn’t impossible to change the volume by pressing down on it. However, it required some serious pressure, and the case had to be positioned in just the right way. Most owners of the old Nexus 5 bumper case eventually thew in the towel and purchased a different case for their device (including myself).
Yep, there’s good news for all you Nexus 5 users out there: Google has apparently fixed the official bumper case for their flagship smartphone. Over the weekend, several reports began popping up from Nexus 5 owners who claimed the new bumper cases were fixed. Google didn’t announce these changes, nor did they make a description change for the bumper on their website, but the fact remains that the new bumper cases no longer suffer from the “fat button” syndrome or misaligned keys.
If you look at the photo above, you’ll see the top the old yellow Nexus 5 bumper case on top with three new ones below. Now, look closely at the volume button on the side. Notice how the old bumper case is smaller? This was a major complaint among owners of the old bumper case.
