Red Google Nexus 5: photo leaked by @evleaks.

Well, thankfully it’s not ‘technically’ on fire, but the red Google Nexus 5 is a hot smartphone that’s selling faster than LG may have predicted. We first brought you the story of a possible red-colored Google Nexus 5 earlier this month thanks to a photo leaked by Twitter user @evleaks. In the weeks to follow, Google confirmed our suspicions by officially releasing the red variant on Google Play.

A Little Bit About The Red Google Nexus 5…

Up until now, Google only offered the Nexus 5 in a black version and a white version. Most people were content with these two options, but Google tried decided to change the game by releasing a fiery-red Nexus 5. Apparently, the move paid off, as the new red Nexus 5 is currently sold out on Google Play. If you attempt to purchase a red Nexus 5 on the Play Store, you’ll be greeted with a message saying “we are out of inventory.”

The hardware specs for the red Google Nexus 5 are exactly the same as the white and black versions, the only difference being the rear shell color. It’s a subtle change that really brings new life to the Nexus 5.

Of course, some people question whether or not the Nexus 5’s shell color is really that big of a deal. After all, you can change the appearance of your device by using a case, so what’s the point in purchasing a colored variant like the red Nexus 5? I guess it’s all a matter of personal opinion, as some people want the bragging rights associated with owning a ‘rare’ red-colored Nexus 5.

How Much Does It Cost?

The red Nexus 5 is available for purchase through Google Play for $349 (16GB) or $399 (32GB). It comes with all of the bells and whistles as the black version and white version, but features a cool fiery-red shell that you can show off to your buddies.

With the red variant sold out on Google Play, you might be wondering if there are any other stores that sell it. Both Sprint and T-Mobile sell the red variant Nexus 5, along with several electronics stores. Trying to find one in stock, however, might be a difficult task given its popularity.

If you’re mind is set on purchasing a red Nexus 5, I recommend checking Google Play on a daily basis, as they’re constantly being updated with new inventory.
